Architecture

About the practice

Studio Tashima is dedicated to the imaginative reinvention of buildings and spaces. They create places that are deeply rooted in their surroundings, revealing the character of what already exists while crafting new layers of meaning.

They believe in ‘a living architecture,’ one that responds to its natural and human environment and continues to evolve over time. This philosophy guides their approach to the careful adaptation and transformation of buildings, allowing them to grow with the changing patterns of life. The result is architecture that feels timeless yet alive: richly layered through materiality, light, and spatial experience.

Featured on HomeInspire

HomeInspire were invited by Studio Tashima to visit one of their projects that they completed a few years ago in the Mapesbury Conservation Area of Northwest London - a two-storey Edwardian semi that Studio Tashima extended and reconfigured for an active, sociable family of four. The brief centred on the ground floor and its relationship to the garden, with the finished house built around three interlocking roof volumes, a reclaimed French antique, and an extension finished in a deliberately contrasting charcoal brick.
